Best Applicatoins For The iPhone

One of the best features about the iPhone is how you can add additional applications to the phone, depending on your specific needs. If you are a business professional who needs help organizing your life, than you will love the productivity applications you can download onto your iPhone. However, if you are a simple iPhone user, who just wants to be better connected to the world around you, than there are many applications that you can choose from. One of the most popular applications for the iPhone is the WeatherBug application.

This amazing feature allows you to have up-to-date weather readings, which make planning a picnic extremely simple. How many times have you wondered what the weather was going to be like next week? Well, instead of tuning into your nightly news for the long-winded forecast, you can simply look to your iPhone and it will give you a detailed weather forecast.

Another great application that everyone should have on their iPhone is the Food Network Application. This application is perfect for families, as well as those who live alone but enjoy a great meal every night. With this application you are able to discover and read-off the hottest recipes from various Food Network shows. These recipes give you detailed instructions, as well as videos, to over 30,000 recipes. Are you in the mood for particular types of food, but you don't know exactly what it is? Well, you can browse the index of recipes depending on the type of ingredients it uses, how long it will take to cook as well as even holiday dishes. This application is one of the most useful apps that you can have on your iPhone, especially if you love to cook.

This next application is for those of us who adore music and going to concerts. The application is called MyMusicServed and it allows you to view and access information concerning concert dates, concert venue information as well as even driving directions to the venue. This is a great way to keep in touch with all of your favorite bands, and where they are playing next. However, one of the coolest features about this application is the fact that you can share what you see. You can e-mail a specific concerts' information to anyone in your address book by simply tapping, "Mail It."

After you have done this, you can send this vital information to anyone you want to share it with. Also, after you have bought your tickets and your friends are all ready to go, you can get seamless driving directions to the venue.

However, these driving directions are unlike any that you have ever seen. They will give you detail directions, as well as traffic information. This is extremely important because the last thing you want to do is be stuck in traffic while your favorite band is playing one of their greatest shows. With this application you can streamline your musical life, and have constant access to the bands that you love. Whether you are an avid concert attendee, or if you just enjoy knowing who is playing where, you will love this application.

What Makes the iPhone Different

When you are in the market for a new cell phone, you have a plethora of phones to choose from. One of the biggest challenges is finding the perfect phone that is compatible with your current cell phone provider. The choices slim down considerably when you start to head into the realm of smart phones. Smart phone are more expensive than others, mainly due to the fact they offer a higher end technology. The iPhone by Apple, is one of these smart phones. Why should you choose an Apple iPhone instead of another smart phone like a Blackberry? What makes the iPhone different from all of the other smart phones available.

The Apple iPhone has a touch screen. While other cell phones have touch screen capabilities, most of the other smart phones do not. That is why they have keypads. The iPhone's touch screen is one of the features that have made it so popular. Everything is done through the screen. It makes texting, sorting through the main page, finding contacts and browsing the internet so easy. No awkward and cumbersome key pads to deal with (men know that these are usually too small to be practical), and no stylus to lose. Everything is done with a tough of a finger. You page through your options and make your selections with your fingertips. The volume and other controls are also controlled with just a tough or two from you. It is this ease of use that is what makes the iPhone different from the other high-end smart phones.

The features of the iPhone are another way that it is different from the other smart phones. This phone is crammed packed with features. As some would say, "this is a mack daddy phone". What are the features that this phone has that others lack? First, there is the fact that the Apple iPhone has given the user the ability to have music, video content like movies and TV, texting, emailing, internet, photography and GPS navigation all in a single device. This is in addition to having great call quality. When you look at the fact that this allows the user to only need a single device instead of having to cart around a PDA, MP3 player, camera, cell phone and GPS system, and you have a very appealing device. These features are what make the iPhone different from all of the others.

Is there anything else that makes the iPhone different? Yes, there are but these may not be positive differences. it is only available with AT&T's cell phone service. If you happen to be in an area with limited or no service by AT&T then you are out of luck if you want an iPhone. Another feature that makes the iPhone different is the battery. It cannot be replaced. If your battery dies, then you need a new phone. Not very good news to someone that has just spent $500 on a phone. There is no way to add to the memory of the device. You can purchase your Apple iPhone with either 6 GB, 8 GB, or 16 GB of memory. If you run out of room on your phone, you have to delete something. There are no slots for memory cards. This is something that Apple should have researched better. Teens who love music and video content can burn through 8 GB or memory in record time.
Overall, what makes the iPhone different from all of the others is its ease of use and versatility. Along those lines, Apple did a fabulous job. Just like with anything else it is not a perfect phone, then again, what is?

People who have purchased this camera describe it as a good camera for first-time users especially young teen-agers: it’s cute, it’s light, it easily fits into a pocket, it’s easy to use, and it seems to be priced with this young demographic in mind, coming in at around $65.00 US.

Many users complain about the photo quality, stating that even in moderately well-lit indoor settings photos are too dark without the flash, but that photos come out too bright with the flash or outside on a bright day—sometimes to the point of washing out people’s faces. However, this problem seems to be more pronounced when the subjects photographed are close to the camera—subjects further away photograph better.

Some users also complain that the LCD display is too dark when used indoors as well. In addition, the LCD goes black for a few seconds after a photo, which some users find frustrating. On a bright note, the LCD is considered large enough to be eye-friendly.

The lack of a view finder is aggravating to users who are used to having this functionality in their digital cameras. Users sometimes find background objects to be out of focus. However, users do find it easy to upload photos from the camera to the computer.

Bottom line: it’s a good camera for younger first-time users who will be more excited about owning a pink camera than being discerning about the quality of pictures they take.

Digital Camera - The Nikon D40

Nikon is a trusted brand in the digital camera industry. Some of the high end Nikons are staples of quality digital photography. One model in particular, though a little pricey for casual picture-takers, is a favorite among professionals and industry insiders: the Nikon D40.

The Nikon D40 is a 6.1 megapixel digital camera with 3x optical zoom. Pictures are taken in JPEG or NEF (RAW) format. The camera's ISO equivalencies range from 200 to 1600. It has both programmed and automatic focus modes and exposure settings to ensure the very best photographs regardless of distance or lighting. It uses a Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm lens.

A sturdy camera, the Nikon D40 weighs in at one and a half pounds. Its physical dimensions are 3.7 in x 5 in x 2.5 in (HxWxD), making it a hard camera to fit into tight spaces, but also a hard camera to break. Users like the Nikon D40’s natural feel. It fits right into the photographer’s hands and doesn’t feel clumsy or bulky.

The Nikon D40 uses SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, or SecureDigital (SD) memory cards. It comes with A/V and USB cables, as well as a shoe cap, strap, eyepiece cover, dust cap, body cap, lens cap, and eyecup. All of this hardware makes the camera sound like serious business, and it is. This is no child’s toy. The Nikon D40 stands at the point where digital cameras start to get expensive. Its users would pay a higher price still for such crisp, clear photographs and easy-to-use extra features. This is one camera that’s worth the cost.

User sentiments are overwhelmingly positive. This camera is touted as the next step after mastering point-and-shoot. When the beginners get serious about taking great pictures, the Nikon D40 will be waiting for them. Customers insist that the camera is easy to use, even with all the extra features. You certainly don’t have to be a professional to take professional-quality photographs with the Nikon D40 digital camera.

User complaints are minimal. Some customers don’t like the fact that the D40 has only three auto focus points, while Nikon’s D80 digital camera has 11. There is also some concern over the way the D40 tends to wash people out in indoor photography, though this is easily remedied with the use of the camera’s “warm” photo editing tool.

True Nikon enthusiasts lament the fact that the D40 can only use auto focus lenses that have their own built-in auto focus motors, thus preventing the use of older Nikon lenses with this digital camera. These complaints are rare, though. Far more often, users say that they haven’t had any problems at all with the camera, and would pay the somewhat hefty price all over again.

The Nikon D40 sells for about $500 US. It can be found online or off, anywhere digital cameras are sold.

Travel With Your iPhone

Do you like to travel? Are you on the road constantly for business? Then the Apple iPhone may be the phone of choice for you. The reason for this is that the iPhone has a GPS navigator built into it. If you are always on the go, a navigator is what you need. Fussing with maps and asking for directions is a thing of the past. Nowadays, tech savvy people have a navigation system in their cars. With an iPhone, you always have your navigator with you, no matter who is driving. Travel and your iPhone; it's a match made in heaven (sort of).

Why would you need a navigator on your cell phone? Anytime you need directions, to a new club perhaps, just tell it where you want to go an viola' directions are there. Even those of us who are no longer part of the club scene will benefit from having a navigation system with us at all times. You can use this to quickly find directions to the field your kid should be playing on. Perhaps the directions given to a friends party were vague. These are all situations where having a navigations system like the one included with the iPhone comes in very handy. Lost in the desert? (yes it happens) Then you really need the navigation system on your iPhone.

In addition to the navigation system there are other reasons to make sure you have your iPhone with you when you travel. Aside from the fact that you will always have a cell phone with you, another advantage is that all of your entertainment is with you as well. If you are taking a long drive and there is nothing to see but cornfields for the next 400 miles, having movies, eBooks and music to entertain you can be a godsend. With the iPhone, you can take your movies and television shows with you wherever you go. This is another reason for pairing up travel and your iPhone.

Are travel and your iPhone really a good match? Let's take a look and see. For example, instead of stopping to ask directions, you can get the information that you need right there on your iPhone. The Apple iPhone is right there to help you find your way with the ability to view satellite images of major street names. The iPhone can help you find landmarks and other things that you might be interested in along the way on your trip. It’s like having a navigator right there with you in your car, letting you know what you need to know and getting you where you need to go.

Now that you know why travel and your iPhone make such a good pair, remember to keep this in mind for your next trip. Be sure to load up on plenty of movies, eBooks, TV shows and music. Use your Apple iPhone to plan your travel route. Check the navigation system for points of interest along the way and make sure that you visit some of them. You can even mark the gas station along or near your route so you can plan a fill-up before it becomes an issue. If Apple keeps making features like this built into their cells phone AAA Travel services may get put out of business.

How To Send MMS Messages On iPhone

For those who have the Apple iPhone, it is probably quickly becoming your number one used electronic device, and why not? With such amazing features as internet access, music storage and the simplistic interface design, this product is literally taking the place of three major personal electronic devices. However, no matter what you use your iPhone for, it is still a cell phone, and with your cell phone there are several things that you expect it to do. One of the major reasons why so many people flocked towards the iPhone is because it promised to make text messaging extremely simple and convenient. And after using the iPhone for any length of time, it is easy to understand that text messaging with this cell phone is extremely easy and quick.

However, if you are used to being able to communicate to your friends and business partners through text and multimedia messages, or MMS, you may find yourself being extremely disappointed with the iPhone. The reason for this is because throughout all of the major improvements and superior features of the iPhone, it still lacks one simple feature. This feature is the ability to send MMS text messages, such as video and picture messaging. When many users first discovered the lack of this feature, there was an outcry because so many people rely on this means of communication to keep their contacts up-to-date on their current activities.

Even though the iPhone is an amazing piece of electronic equipment, not having the capabilities for sending MMS text messages is a major turn-off for so many potential customers and current ones as well. However, what if you were to find out that there was a way to get around this road block, and still send pictures of that funny looking dog to all your friends? Even though you can't send a MMS text message, there is a way to still send pictures to your friend's cell phones, without the means of text messaging. Most cell phones that have been made within recent years now come with e-mail capabilities, whether the users know this or not. It is by the means of e-mail that you are now able to send MMS messages to all of your friends.

It is extremely easy to do this with your iPhone, and requires very little time on your part. What you will do is "e-mail" the photos to your recipient; however, the person you are "e-mailing" doesn't have to have e-mail support on their phone in order to receive your message. The only requirement is your recipient must be able to receive MMS messages. What you will do is find the photo you want to send on your iPhone and tap the send photo link, which is located on the bottom left hand side of your iPhone.

To send the MMS message, you will include the recipient's phone number along with their carrier's e-mail prefix. An example of this would be 3145556847@tmomail.net for a T-mobile telephone number. This does require that you know who your recipient's carrier is, however, all you have to do is ask your friend who their cell phone carrier is. After you have done this, you will be able to send the MMS message to them, and they will receive it like a MMS text message.

Below are the Email Prefixes for the major cell phone carriers: Verizon, vzpix.com; AT&T/Cingular, mms.att.com; T-Mobile, tmomail.net; Sprint/Nextel, messaging.sprintpcs.com; Virgin Mobile, vmobl.net; Amp'd Mobile, vzwpix.com; Alltel, message.alltel.com

Mitsubishi LT-46244 LCD HDTV Review

This television can pass when talking about TV qualities but its very high price is not that reasonable. Mitsubishi LT-46244 holds a number of average qualities that deserve a discounted price. It’s not an awful appliance so the price $2500 is truly expensive.

For our judges’ verdict this television’s image quality deserves a good review since it ranked fourth place from among 46-47 inch HDTV sets which have been tested, and it got a 3.6 points difference from the outstanding score of Samsung LN46A550. The price of this TV is really a big deal though since it can already buy two Samsung television sets.

But the flaws are visible when it comes to color, it produces low quality images but it is still better than LG 47LBX Opus though. The wavy or unstable pattern as seen in Vatican Wall of the movie Mission Impossible 3 appeared too bluish. This was described by the judges as excess brightness and blurriness.

It gathers a good review when it comes to the appearance of the menu as shown on the screen with added icons. But it is still flawed. For instance when you adjust video setting the menu disappears instantly so it takes a long time to change something about the menu again.

LT-46244 can be spin which is a convenient feature since you can see the rear parts of the TV without too much effort. This is handy in the part of the user especially when you are accessing inputs of the television which are difficult to run and use. Another nice feature it has is: the USB port for picture slide presentation and a power-saving option.

Also, the LT-46244 integrated speakers are dreadful. A simple sound coming from it was unclear. For very expensive price, it should perform better than that.

But it also has a good quality: the set’s documentation. It provides a fast set-up manual where you can start learning from the simple things to complicated ones which are all explained in plain and clear English.

Some excellent features in the Mitsubishi LT-46244 is XVColor, a recent technology that allows your new TV to show a lot more color than an old analog could ever hope to present. This feature will make the most of your high definition.

The Tru1080p is another great feature that works to make sure that your signal is showing the highest and best definition that it can at all times. As you are watching TV, the signal from the broadcasting network will flow through your lines without the need of conversions that can slow and freeze your image.

The one unique product of the Mitsubishi LT-46244 are the color schemes and options. There is a wide variety and selection of ways that you can adjust the images on screen to make sure that every object is colored to your own unique perfection.

A color 4D video option reduces noise to prevent fuzzy pictures and lines. An advanced filter will leave the screen crystal clear, while the perfect color option will allow you to adjust multiple colors individually. The full colors can each be adjusted to create unique image and color blends that are perfect for each consumer.

This LT-46244 would be sold reasonably at $1600 but with its original $2500, it’s just too much for a gadget that is less than perfect.

Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000 Review

The Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000 is a great piece of equipment and a beautiful HDTV. However, it would be an even better flat screen to purchase if they would lower its street price of $1999. Its not a perfect HDTV but unlike some of the other models, it has very few flaws to distract from what it has to offer a consumer.

For the average viewer of this television, they will be hard pressed to notice that the image quality is not perfect. The onscreen pictures look fine and offers a good view and you would have to look directly and pay close attention to notice a dull quality that is sometimes visible.

In this Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000, they have saved room by joining the picture in picture and freeze frame buttons in one easy to access section. When you hit the freeze button you will immediately notice that the TV will freeze as the small PIP square presents itself. While you are looking at the picture in picture, the larger screen that you were previous viewing will freeze so that you will not miss any of the action while you attempt to take a quick glance at another channel.

The only downside to the picture in picture and freeze frame mode is that Sony neglected to add multiple tuners leaving you with no option in viewing two channels at once. However, they did include a jack to connect your headphones. This will make it easier for you to watch TV without disturbing other people in your household.

Most of us will not place our flat screens in high and hard to reach areas and the convenient location of the menu and control buttons means that you will no longer have to bend down to play with the controls. Unlike most models of flat screen, Sony has placed the controls on the top instead of the bottom and sides. Consumers who may have back problems can easily use the controls if they cannot find the remote right away.

A fatal flaw in the Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000 involves the remote control. The design of the remote is more visually pleasing than it is useful. You will not find a menu control and you will instead have to go through other options on the remote to reach that setting. You will find that a number of actions have to be performed before you can reach the desired control that you were searching for. It can also be confusing trying to scroll through the options as it is not always clear which way you should guide the buttons if you hope to proceed.

While the remote offers a lot of key issues when you first begin, it will become easier to use once you become accustomed to its design. After the initial setup and installation, you will not have a lot of use for the menu options, so its lack of a good position on the remote won’t be a problem for very long.

The use of the remote may offer some problems that will resolve themselves at a later time, but the actual remote itself may cause further problems for consumers. The remote control is extremely long due to its many buttons and this can lead to difficulty when you are trying to work the controls.

Overall, if you are not turned off by the problems with the remote, you will love the Sony Bravia and get a lot of use out of this great HDTV.

Class 3 devices usability polished less qualification, up to 1 mW of competency to betoken exact. Stash a regular antenna, they will obtain a scope of around 16 - 33 feet.

Apple iPod Special U2 Edition

New iPod models have sprung up as quickly as mushrooms after the rain and each time they just seem to get better and better. I have to say though that this U2 special edition iPod just captured my heart the moment I saw it. Being very much a U2 fan, the fact that the back panel has the band members’ signatures engraved on it is enough reason in itself for it to be the best. The U2 iPod is easily recognizable from all the other models due to its style. While the others are usually white - or plain black in the case of some 5G models – this baby’s black front panel and bright red click wheel is sure to stand out.

The U2 iPod is so much more than eye candy, though. Twenty gigabytes of storage may seem meager compared to the storage capacity of the newer models but believe me, it still translates to a lot of songs. I have had the iPod for a little over a year now and I still haven’t filled it up.

The U2 iPod has similar features as that of other iPods of its generation. It is so easy to use - all you need in order to do whatever you want with your songs is your thumb. Superior sound quality lets you enjoy all your favorite songs.

One drawback is the battery life. It is supposed to be able to play songs continuously for 12 hours. In my experience, it could be anywhere from 4-9 hours. Factors such as file size and playback options may be the reason for this. The lock button on the top of the iPod can help conserve battery. When not in use, you can lock it so that you won’t accidentally run the battery down. Another concern is that the iPod gets scratched easily. Solution: get a case for protection.

Indeed, compared to the other models with their newer features, the U2 iPod is a bit expensive. If you think about it though, it has everything you need in an mp3 player – unless it’s video you’re after. I suppose the bottom line is whether you are enough of a U2 fan to splurge on it. Then again, even if you are not and you have enough cash to spend, the stand out look of the U2 iPod should be enough reason to get it for yourself.

Apple G4 Ibook - What Computers Are All About

Who likes computers? Okay, come on, we all do. If you don't need them for school or work, you surely enjoy surfing the web. Whether it be a PC or a Mac, you most likely have some modern-day computer for your daily needs.

The Apple G4 Ibook is a prime example of what computers are all about. I purchased my fourteen-inch notebook about a year ago, and now I can't live without it. The Apple G4 Ibook offers a standard 60 gigs, combo or super drive, and a compact size to tote around everywhere.

This magnificent machine has changed my view of computers.

Coming from a background of PCs, I wasn't familiar with the Apple G4 Ibook, or the Macs at all for that matter. After a long discussion with my brother, a computer technician previously obsessed with IBM, I came to the conclusion that I would get an Apple G4 Ibook.

If this professional PC lover recommended a Mac to me, what else was I to do. He now also enjoys an Ibook, and prefers it to his IBM notebook.

Furthermore, I was convinced once again by a computer geek at my University, who had recently made the transition from PC to Mac, and said he wouldn't go back. This is basically due to Mac's simplicity.

While PCs have the standard right and left click option with their mouse, Apple G4 Ibooks have only one button. There is no right click.

You want to make a command. Try open apple and a letter which refers to the command.

This is easy. Open apple N will pull up a new search engine window if you're browsing the web and do not wish to close your current one. Icons can be dragged to the folders and locations of your choice. Very simple. You can hide your icons with the Apple G4 Ibook. Just scroll your mouse to the bottom of the screen and they'll magnify for your convenience.

When it comes to choosing a notebook computer, there are choices galore. You have to keep in mind what you're purchasing it for.

While Macs have a reputation for video and edit capabilities, PCs are known for having better game options. All in all, both types of computers can do virtually anything you need and want them to. It all comes down to personal preference.

After years of PC use, I chose the Apple G4 Ibook for its simplicity.

Not to mention the wonderful virus control. One thing you will notice after buying a Mac, viruses seem to be a PC thing.

Synchronizing your PDA With Your Desktop Computer

Every PDA available today can be synchronized with your desktop computer. This is an important program or function that allows you to add data to your PDA. Your PDA could come with the docking station that plugs into your desktop computer, while some docking stations for specific PDA's are sold separately. Either way you want to be sure you have the right one.

Being able to synchronize your PDA with your computer also allows you to back up information should you need to. Synchronization is also effective if you need to get information off of your PDA in order to free up some of the memory space on your PDA.

With synchronization you can also load emails and other items onto your PDA to read them at a later time. It also keeps you up to date , with any appointments or details concerning your calendar of events on your PDA. The file manager on your PDA, knows when the PDA itself has actually been docked to a desktop computer and will begin to synchronize information. There is a program that comes with your docking station or PDA for the desktop computer to acknowledge the PDA and its source.

If synchronization starts automatically you have to be careful, in some ways because the PDA will attempt to load files on its own that you may not want on the PDA in the first place. You should create a special folder on your desktop computer for your PDA to keep track of your information.

One point that is definite, if you do not create a file and you synchronize your PDA with your desktop computer specifying what folder to sync with your PDA will attempt to synchronize and every folder on your desktop computer it can. You have to be specific in this area, or your memory on your PDA will fill up a lot faster than you had wanted it too. And, with information you didn't want on your PDA to begin with. Some people change the settings on their PDA so is doesn't automatically start to synchronize with your computer as soon as it is docked with your desktop, doing this basically makes the PDA from a command from you before it starts to synchronize the folders.

Also, in the event your PDA gets lost or stolen, you have the information on your desktop computer and that data as well as maybe pictures or mp3's aren't lost. You synchronized the information with your PDA. Most PDA's already have the synchronization program on them, therefore all you have to do is install the program on your desktop computer for the synchronization process to work using your PDA.

Another good use for synchronization is if you want to personalize your PDA, such as purchase games off of the Internet. You download the game to your desktop computer and then through synchronizing the game is installed on your PDA. However, make sure it is a game that can be used on your PDA. There are special formats for that too.

PDA's That Won't Install Programs Properly

es, sometimes this does happen. You purchase a program for your PDA and get home just to find out the program doesn't want to install the way it is supposed to onto your PDA. You have docked it with the desktop computer and still it doesn't want to install.

There could be a number of reasons as to why it doesn't want to install the program on your PDA the way it should. Did you read the program before you bought it? Is the program designed for PDA's or desktop style computers. There is a difference in programming and this is one thing some people make the mistake of doing. They do not check to see if the program is compatible with the PDA.

Another problem some people have is that the program they are trying to install won't work with say the size of video card in the PDA, or other components such as resolution size. If this is the case the program is not going to run properly and you shouldn't continue to attempt the cause of installing it on the PDA.

The last problem one might have with installing a program onto their PDA would be lack of space. Or memory that is needed for the program. If this is indeed the situation, the PDA will tell you the program cannot be installed. However, if there are files on your PDA that can be removed or transferred to a desktop computer or memory card to free up space, at that point it may then be possible to install the program.

If the program started to install, and the error message told you that it could not install for lack of space, be sure to remove the initial installation. And as an extra precaution reset you PDA. Then, start the installation again, if you now have enough space the program will probably install correctly.

The purpose of removing an existing attempt to install the program and resetting your PDA is for the fact that in some instances, when a program is reinstalled overwriting the previous that did not fully install, it can cause the PDA to have some corrupted files within the program and although it installed ok, it may not work the right way.

If you are trying to install a program from one PDA to another PDA by using the infrared port on your PDA, a lot of times this won't work for several reasons. One main reason is simply because the application is what you are actually transferring from one PDA to another, and not actually the setup program needed for it to run properly.

The best way to solve this, which in some cases it still might not work, is to go into the windows directory or program files on your PDA and see if you can find the setup files for the program you are trying to install by using the infrared procedure. This works occasionally, however, the setup files are sometimes considered temp files and once the program is installed the setup files are automatically deleted.

Integrated iPod Car Kit for Audi Vehicles

iPods are one of the most successful inventions if not the most successful inventions in the last 10 years, Its one of a very few inventions that transcends generations. In my family I have one, my parents have two and even my grandparents have one (Admittedly they struggle to use it sometimes). However this demonstrates the desirability, use-ability and functionality of them. Due to this invention It’s likely within 10 years most of the worlds music collection will be digital, with very few singles & albums released on CD or any other physical media. With this in mind it’s important to realise now what impact this will have in the present and more so in the future.

There’s a growing trend within the car audio and entertainment market to connect the iPod into the entertainment system, through the car stereo. This allows access of all of your favourite music and videos (where compatible) at the touch of a button. With the use of these devices you are in control of what you listen to, when you want to listen to it, without having to change 100’s of CDs to switch from artist to artist.

Many aftermarket manufacturers already offer this function with their newer stereo ranges. However the vast majority vehicle owners do not want to remove the original stereo equipment and replace with an aftermarket equivalent. This is more evident in the case of the more luxurious and executive vehicles owners such as Audi, as it’s more difficult to integrate aftermarket systems into the more expensive and desirable interior. If this is the case for you there are more options available than you may have thought.

iPod Car kits are available for factory fitted radios, among the best are Dension and the US equivalent Dice. These devices connect into the CD changer usually found on the back of the stereo. When connected they emulate the CD changer but allow you to connect you iPod into the system. From here you can control your music selections from the vehicle steering wheel controls or from the stereo & navigate back and forward through albums while it keeps you iPod charged and ready for when you exit the car.

Kits are available for the following Audi Radios,

Chorus, Chorus II, Chorus Gen2, Concert, Concert II, Concert Gen2, Symphony, Symphony II, Symphony Gen2, Navigation Plus RNS-D, Navigation RNS-E, Navigation RNS-Low

Separate kits are required for the MMI, MMI Basic fibre optic systems.

Extend Your iPod Battery Life

Music Plays a large part in most people’s lives. Some people absolutely need music to get motivated to workout. Some people need music to make the workday go quicker. And for those romantic types, music is counted on to “set the mood”. Gone are the days of mixed tapes and clunky CD players though. Digital music is where it’s at and what better way to enjoy your music, then on the go. The iPod was introduced in 2001 and revolutionized how we listen to music.

Now, anyone who is anyone owns an iPod. Apple hasn’t made it easy to keep up with the latest technologies though. Shortly after you buy your “latest and greatest” iPod, a new iPod model comes out that can do things you wouldn’t imagine an iPod ever doing. iPods come in several different “flavors” from orange, red, and lime to sleek glossy black and now many iPod models not only play and store music but also movies and games. All these extra iPod features equals more time with your headphones plugged in your ears, but also means your iPod is powered on much longer.

With the extended “play time” of these iPods, have you ever found that your iPod battery is just not keeping up with you? Below are a few tips on how to extend the life or your iPod battery so you can enjoy your iPod to the fullest.

Use Hold and Pause
Set the Hold switch when you are not using your iPod. The hold switch prevents the iPod from inadvertently waking up, which unnecessarily uses power. Also, consider pausing your music when you are not listening to it.

Turn Wi-Fi Off
Wi-Fi uses power even if you are not using it to connect to a network. Turn it off saves power. Go to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi.

Turn Equalizer Off
Turn EQ off if you don’t use it. Adding EQs to playback uses more of the iPod processor, which in turn, drains more from the iPod battery. However, if you’ve added EQ to tracks in iTunes, you’ll need to set EQ to “flat”, which will give the effect of “off”.

Limit Backlight Usage
The default setting is for the backlight to always be on. Leaving the backlight on will significantly reduce your battery life.

Second Guess Third-party Applications
Many third-party applications make the iPod Touch so much more fun to play with. However, excessive use of these applications can reduce the battery life because they prevent the screen from dimming or shutting off.

According to Apple.com, a properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles. If you find that your iPod battery no longer holds a charge like it used to, it might be time to replace your battery. There are several reputable vendors online that sell iPod batteries as well as iPod extended life batteries.

RIM BlackBerry Pearl

The RIM BlackBerry Pearl is the first BlackBerry to offer a 1.3-megapixel camera, music and video playback, expandable memory, and a mapping application. The super sleek phone also continues to offer superior push e-mail capabilities, EDGE support, and Bluetooth. It has a 2.25-inch TFT screen that displays 65,000 colors at a 240×260-pixel resolution, offers a sharp, clear display with vibrant colors and is great for viewing e-mail, images, and Web sites

It also features light-sensing technology, so it will automatically adjust the screen and keyboard depending on your environment; true enough, it adjusted the display’s light so that we could still read it in direct sunlight. You can change the screen’s theme; backlight time; and font size, style, and family. A small LED above the screen illuminates different colors for different status messages: green for wireless, blue for Bluetooth, red for new messages, and amber for low battery. There’s also a mute button on top of the device.

The BlackBerry Pearl sports a 1.3-megapixel camera with a flash and 5X zoom; however, it doesn’t have video recording capabilities like most camera-equipped smart phones and cell phones. You also don’t get as many of the customization options, but you can choose from three picture sizes (1,280×1, 024, 640×480, and 320×240) and three quality settings (normal, fine, and superfine). The BlackBerry Pearl’s 1.3-megapixel camera took decent pictures, though colors were a bit washed out. You can’t record video, but you can watch video with the integrated media player. It supports various video formats, including AVI, MP4, MOV, and 3GP files. For music, the BlackBerry Pearl supports MP3, AAC, MIDI, and WAV files, among others. Beyond multimedia, Black Berry Maps provides local maps and allows you to get text-based driving directions right on your device, but there are no integrated GPS capabilities (you can add this functionality with a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

BlackBerry Pearl retains many of the same features that have made Blackberry’s popular, such as e-mail. The smart phone can sync with your company’s BlackBerry Enterprise server with support for Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino, or Novell GroupWise to deliver corporate e-mail in real time. It also supports up to 10 personal/business POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail accounts. There’s a setup wizard onboard to help with this process, and we used it to get our AT&T Yahoo account set up on the device.Other messaging options include text and multimedia messages, and we’re glad to see the inclusion of popular instant-messaging clients, such as Yahoo, AOL, MSN, and ICQ. For mobile professionals, an attachment viewer opens popular file formats, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel WordPerfect, PDF, JPEG, GIF, and more.

You can also view tracked changes and embedded images and zoom and rotate documents, but you can’t edit documents out of the box, though third-party software is available that allows this functionality. Other applications on the Pearl include a calendar, a Web browser, a tasks list, a memo pad, an alarm, a password keeper, and a calculator.

As a phone, the address book is limited only by the available memory, which tops out at 64MB flash memory (the SIM card holds an additional 250 contacts). For each entry, you can store up to eight numbers, work and home addresses, e-mail and Web addresses, company information, and notes. For caller ID purposes, you can assign a photo to a contact as well as a group category, business or personal. The BlackBerry Pearl now supports voice dialing, so you can use voice commands to call up contacts and dial numbers.

In addition, Bluetooth 2.0 is onboard for wireless headsets, car kits, and desktop connectivity. Though RIM has said it plans to add Wi-Fi to future devices, the Pearl does not have integrated Wi-Fi. Fortunately, you can surf the Web using T-Mobile’s EDGE network. The BlackBerry Pearl is rated for 3.5 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time. In our tests, we were able to get 5.8 hours of talk time. RIM also says the Pearl’s battery can last up to 21 hours with just music playback and 6 hours for video playback. Though nothing revolutionary, the addition of multimedia features and the already solid e-mail capabilities make the RIM BlackBerry Pearl an attractive device for business users and consumers alike.

Cellular Wireless Network Handoff Protocols

In cellular wireless networks, it is very important to deal with Mobile station (MS) handoff between cells so that they can maintain a continuous and QoS-guaranteed service. There are four basic types of handoff protocols; network-controlled handoff (NCHO), mobile-assisted handoff (MAHO), soft handoff (SHO), and mobile-controlled handoff (MCHO). From NCHO to MCHO, the control protocols tend to decentralize the decision making process, which help shorten handoff delays; however, the decentralization makes the measurement information available to make a handoff decision also decreased. Next, we briefly introduce these four types of handoff mechanisms.

Network-controlled handoff

NCHO is a centralized handoff protocol, in which it is network that makes handoff decision based on measurements of the signal quality of mobile station (MS) at a number of based stations (BS). Specifically, if the MS is measured to have a weaker signal in its old cell, while a stronger signal in a neighbouring cell, then a handoff decision could be made by the network to switch MS from the old cell to the new cell. Such a type of handoff in general takes 100-200 ms and produces a noticeable “interruption” in the conversation. Overall delay of such a type of handoff is in general in the range of 5-10 s. Thus, this type of handoff is not suitable to a rapid changing environment and a high density of users due to the associated delay. NCHO is used in the first-generation analogue systems such as AMPS.

Mobile-assisted handoff

MAHO distributes the handoff decision process. It is MS makes measurements, and the Mobile switch centre (MSC) makes decisions on handoff. Compared to NCHO, this mechanism has more distributed control, thereby helping to improve the overall handoff delay, typically in the range of 1 s.

Soft handoff

SHO is often used in conjunction with MAHO. Rather than immediately terminating the connection between a MS and a BS. In the course of handoff, a new connection is established first between the MS and a new BS, while keeping the old connection between the MS and the old station. Only after the new connection can stably transmit data, the old connection is released. Thus, SHO is a “make before break” mechanism. This mechanism helps ensure the service continuity, which is however at the cost of more capacity resource consumption during the handoff (as two connections are established simultaneously).

Mobile-controlled handoff

In contrast to NCHO, it is MS that totally control and make decisions on handoff in the MCHO approach. A MS keeps on measuring signal strength from all the surround base station (BS)s. If the MS find that there is a new BS who has a stronger signal than that of an old BS, it may consider to handoff from the old BS to the new BS given a certain signal threshold is reached. MCHO is the highest degree of handoff decentralization, thereby enabling it to have a very fast handoff speed, typically on the order of 0.1 s.

Summary

We have introduced four types of handoff mechanisms that are widely used in cellular wireless networks. From centralization to decentralization, network-controlled handoff (NCHO) shows the highest centralization with the network totally controlling and making decisions on handoff, while mobile-controlled handoff (MCHO) gives full flexibility to MS to allow it to make decisions on handoff. As a result, decentralized handoff mechanisms show advantages of very fast handoff speed, while centralized mechanisms generally take much longer time. In modern cellular wireless networks, decentralized handoff mechanisms are widely applied due to their good scalability and fast handoff speeds.

How to easily unlock your cell phone

With each new cell phone that is introduced in to the communication world. People are curious to try them and experience the technology that is embedded in to it. From a cell phone with video camera embedded in to it, to the one with GPS technology, the trend today is to pick up the latest cell phone that has been introduced in the industry.

Now, this has been a quite difficult process in the past due the phone lock systems in the earlier cell phones. However, these days, with the advent of advanced technology in the communications industry, one can easily switch services and tastes as per the new plans offered by the cell phone providers. This new facility is the cell phone unlocking facility. You would be surprised to know that it is extremely easy to unlock a cell phone these days.

First and foremost, you require to make sure that you are fully aware of how to do so. It is extremely important to be proficient in this act, in order to accomplish it successfully. Most cell phones can be easily changed as per the price or cell phone plan. Cell phones such as T-Mobile, AT&T and Cingular can also be successfully switched over. However, you cannot unlock a cell phone that does not offer you a GSM service. The reason is that these cell phones do not possess a transferable card and the cell phone number and name of an individual that holds this cell phone are attached to them.

In case, you manage to access the cell phone unlocking, the process would seem to be extremely easy for you. First of all, try knowing that cell phone unlocking is 100 percent legal, in your area. Try confirming this with the company you have decided to purchase your cell phone from.

Remember that each cell phone possess its specialized code that is allotted to it and is based around the specific serial number.

You would find several websites online that can easily unlock your cell phone, or offer cell phone unlock codes to you. These websites would charge you a nominal amount and this can range from $5 to $12. Most of the cell phones possess an operating software and this software is usually hard to crack. Hence, you may require a plug in order to connect your phone in to a different unit.

Once you unlock your cell phone, make sure that you test its performance well.
